Mobility and Transports Economics 2017/2018

Objectives

Students should be able to:
Identify the main issues concerning mobility, the factors that are influent in it, as well as social and economic impacts that arise from changes in mobility patterns;
Perform an economical evaluation of transport and mobility, quantitatively and qualitatively;
Know the general framework of national and European transport policies.
Identify the main forms and methodologies to finance public transport.

Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge in Statistics and Microeconomics

Teaching Metodology

Lectures will have oral presentations, with the support of slides.
Students will be asked to participate, answering questions to guide them to the knowledge of the subjects.
Some case studies will be presented aiming to acknowledge more specifically some areas of transport activities.
Aiming to stimulate students to perform a continuous effort on research and study, exercises will be distributed to be performed individually by them.
During the semester, 2 technical visits will be made in order to allow students to know in real terms how big enterprises and equipments operate.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

Subjects lectured were designed in order to allow students to obtain specific knowledge in the fields of mobility and transportation.
The themes inlcuded in the program of this syllabus allow students to use previous concepts on micro-economics as well as those learned during the year.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

Assuming that this syllabus is an option in sudents' curricula, it is quite important they recognize the importance of the theme, as well as the utility of the concepts and methodologies learned.
The presentation of practical situations and the resolution of exercises will allow students to associate theoretical knowledge with practical experience and incentive them to deepen their study in the future.
