Objectives

• Know and understand the basic elements of accounting mechanism, its practical and theoretical foundations;
• Understand the accounting as an information system;
• Identify the impacts of operations on the financial position;
• Analyze and account the most common patrimonial facts of business experience in accordance with the Accounting Standard System;
• Develop some of the most common accounting work prior to the final accounts;
• Know how to use accounting software;
• Know the main concepts associated with the calculation of production costs (raw materials, labor, direct labor and production overheads).

Teaching Metodology

Theoretical and practical interactive method in order to promote the active learning of students by means of
demonstration:
- Before each class is taught, students are provided (through the Moodle e-learning platform) with the
underlying material so they come to the lesson having got previously acquainted with the topics;
- While at class, the lecturer provides a theoretical explanation of the topics, based on cases that simulate the
accounting related problems;
- In class it is emphasized students’ practice under lecturer supervision.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

The knowledge and understanding of the basic elements of accounting mechanism, its practical and theoretical foundations as well as understand the accounting as an information system, are goals to be achieved through the contents. On the one hand, the identification of the impacts of operations on equity, and accounting analysis and registration of common property facts of business experience in accordance with the Accounting Standards System. On the other hand, the development of some of the most common accounting work prior to closing accounts. Finally, an introduction to the calculation of production costs.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

The methodology was defined to foster motivation and active learning of students. The upfront access to the
classes supporting material provides for a better understanding of the subjects as well as triggers questions which are welcomed and answered during class time.
